LTC Erik A. Kjonnerod joined the Eagle Battalion as the Professor of Military Science in Summer 2015 and also serves as our MS IV Instructor. He was born in Stuttgart, Germany and raised in Panama and Northern Virginia. He graduated from W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, VA in 1995. He graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA in 1999 and was commissioned through ROTC. LTC Kjonnerod was commissioned a 2LT in the Infantry. He completed the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Airborne Course, and Ranger School in 2000. LTC Kjonnerod was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, NY where he served as a rifle platoon leader, mortar platoon leader, executive officer and assistant S3 in the 2nd Battalion 14th Infantry Regiment and deployed to Kosovo in support of NATO peacekeeping operations and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I. After completing the Infantry Captains Career Course in 2004, he was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Ft. Stewart, GA. LTC Kjonnerod deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III as an Assistant in the Division G3 Plans and then was reassigned to 2nd Brigade to become the Assistant S3 and Chief of Operations. LTC Kjonnerod was then reassigned to 3rd Squadron 7th Cavalry where he served as the Alpha Troop Commander and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom V. Upon completion of his command in 2008, LTC Kjonnerod was assigned to 1st Battalion 11th Infantry Regiment (Basic Officer Leader Course II), where he served as a Platoon Mentor and Company Commander. He then served in 2nd Battalion 11th Infantry Regiment (Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course) as the Battalion Operations officer.
