Born in N. Novgorod, Russia, Dr. Elena Zaharova Biffi is currently an Assistant Professor of Optometry at New England College of Optometry (NECO) and an Attending Optometrist at NECO Clinical Network/South Boston Community Health Center Eye Clinic. She received her Bachelor in Science from University of Massachusetts summa cum laude, and earned her Doctor of Optometry and Master in Visual Sciences degrees from New England College of Optometry in 2010. Shortly after completing her advanced residency training in Ocular Disease at State University of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry, she joined NECO Clinical Network as an Associate Clinical Professor. As a student, Elena studied dispensing optics at Aalen University in Germany and volunteered for a unique opportunity to provide care for indigent patients in El Salvador. Dr Biffi is the recipient of numerous educational awards, including the Vistakon Student Travel Fellowship award in 2009. As a doctor of optometry, she was an invited lecturer at the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists, American Academy of Optometry, NECO and SUNY College of Optometry. Dr. Biffi’s research has generated multiple posters, oral presentations at national and international meetings, and peer-reviewed original articles. Dr. Biffi is a member of the American Academy of Optometry, Massachusetts Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. Her professional interests include diagnosis and management of ocular diseases and the use of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to aid in the differential diagnosis of various ocular abnormalities.
