I graduated in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1978). PhD in Animal Science / Epidemiology (1998) also by UFMG, and Post-doctorate in Pharmacoepidemiology / Pharmacovigilance at the Autonomous University of Barcelona / Catalan Institute of Pharmacoepidemiology, Spain ( 2001). From 1979 to 1990 I worked as Secretary of State for Health in Minas Gerais as a Planning Technician in Public Health, where I was the Coordinator of the Schistosomiasis Control Program in the State. Since then I work as a professor in the Department of Social Pharmacy of the Faculty of Pharmacy of UFMG, currently as Professor, where I coordinate the Center for the Study of Medicine (Cemed / UFMG) and Pro-Health II of UFMG / SMS-BH. I participated in this time of the creation of Cemed and the Specialization Course in Public Health - Medication Concentration (1991) and the non-governmental organization Institute for Safety Medicine Practice, section Brazil (ISMP-Brazil), where I currently hold the position of Scientific Director. I participated in the PET-Health tutors' body, the advisory committee of the presidency of the National Agency of Sanitary Vigilance for the Notifying Pharmacy Program, of the School of Public Health of Minas Gerais as a collaborator for the training of human resources in the Pharmacy government program de Minas and CRF-MG, as chairman of the Teaching Commission. I work today as an ad hoc advisor for several journals, including the Brazilian Journal of Pharmaceutical Science, the Brazilian Journal of Epidemiology and the Revista de Saúde Pública de São Paulo, and Health & Social Care in the Community. I worked as a researcher at the Brazilian Research Center, in São Paulo (CEBRAP). I work in the areas of teaching, research and extension in Pharmaceutical Assistance, Pharmacoepidemiology, Pharmacovigilance and Drug Use Studies. My bibliographic production in June 2015 includes 36 published articles, nine book chapters, five articles in newspapers or magazines and 20 posts on Cemed's Blog.
