Assistant Professor
Department Of Plant Science
Central University of Kerala
India
Dr. Jasmine M. Shah did her B.Sc. in Botany and M.Sc. in Genetics and Plant Breeding from the University of Kerala, INDIA. Her Ph.D. (in Biotechnology) was from Madurai Kamaraj University, INDIA and post-doctorate from the Department of Biotechnology, Indian Institute of Technology - Madras (IIT-M), INDIA. During her M.Sc. dissertation she identified in vitro conditions for inducing somatic embryogenesis in Plumbago rosea. During her Ph.D. she developed transgenic rice lines exhibiting resistance against the sheath blight disease. She studied the influence of Agrobacterium infection on somatic mutations during her post-doctoral tenure. She published eight research articles (first author in seven) and one monograph during her Ph.D. and Post-doctoral tenure. Currently, her lab is involved in research on plant-Agrobacterium interaction, stress-induced mutations, plant functional genomics and epigenetics. She has received many fellowships like the prestigious DST INSPIRE Faculty fellowship, SERB Fast track Young Scientist Fellowship, DBT Research Associateship, IIT-M post-doctoral fellowship and CSIR Junior Research Fellowship. She has received funding of Rs.66,72,000/- from two research grants. She is also recipient of the Young Scientist award and Best oral presentation award at national and international symposiums, respectively.
