(Animal Science), Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria AREAS OF EXPERTISE: Enhancing immunocompetence in young poultry by using immunostimulatory biologics (such as probiotics, synbiotics, and immunonutrients) to promote early development of intestinal immunity. Use of biologics to modulate microbial profile in the poultry intestine to favor reduction in colonization by foodborne or disease-causing pathogens such as Salmonella spp., Campylobacter spp., and Clostridium perfringens. Reducing feed costs through the identification of alternative feedstuff that will support optimum nutrient utilization and adequate broiler growth performance. Promoting environmental stewardship by investigating novel strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from poultry production facilities.
Dr. Fasina’s research focus is to employ a multidisciplinary approach that combines immunonutrition, mucosal immunity, microbial ecology, digestive physiology, and feed science to improve poultry production and reduce intestinal colonization by foodborne and disease-causing pathogens, without compromising digestive function of the gut.
