Dr. Brennan spent five years working at Mardin Artuklu University in the southeast of Turkey. His main subject areas are Greek historiography, political philosophy, minor Anatolian civilizations, and identity formation in ancient and modern contexts. Beyond this core, his research interests are broad; for instance, the question of early human settlement in the Middle East, pre-Islamic history of the Kurds, social change in modern Turkey. He believes an informed view of the past is vital to understanding today's complex societies and that the historian has a singular role in ensuring that the past remains relevant to contemporary debates. He is currently completing a monograph on Xenophon the Athenian and co-editing a Landmark Ancient History edition of his Anabasis.
