Assistant Professor
Department of Livestock Production
University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences
Pakistan
Dr. Imtiaz is an animal scientist and he has completed his B.Sc (Hons) Animal Husbandry and M.Sc (Hons) Animal Breeding and Genetics from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. He has earned his PhD from the University of Sydney, Australia. Dr. Imtiaz has been working as Lecturer of Animal Breeding and Genetics in this department since 28 May 2005. At present, he is working as Assistant Professor and conducts research, trainings and teaching in the fields of Animal Breeding and Molecular Genetics, Genomics, Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics and Evolutionary Biology to understand and analyze the production and genomic data of livestock species (e.g., cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat, chicken) and to characterize the genetic architecture related to various traits of agricultural-economic importance (being targeted by domestication and subsequent selection) for appearance, adaptation, behavior, health, reproduction and production. Moreover, he is engaged in inter-disciplinary collaborative research with colleagues from various academic and research institutes to study the genetic, breeding, management and environmental factors affecting productivity of livestock farms and agricultural industries. Dr. Imtiaz undertakes teaching related duties consistently with the University’s principles of teaching, training, advising and examination of the undergraduates and postgraduates in the disciplines of animal sciences and livestock production. In addition, he supervises, trains and evaluates postgraduates, ensuring successful and timely completions of their research projects focusing on genetic characterization, breeding efficiency and production enhancement of domestic and farm animal species. He also participates and conducts trainings, workshops, conferences and seminars, and writes scientific publications to disseminate knowledge and techniques to the researchers and livestock producers about various areas of animal husbandry for improving behaviour, health, growth, fertility and production of livestock.
