Dr. Goldsmith is an assistant professor of biological sciences and the director of the Grand Challenges Initiative. His research interests are focused on understanding the implications of climate change for tropical forest function, particularly with respect to water and carbon cycling. His research uses observational and experimental approaches from plant physiological, community and ecosystem ecology, as well as stable isotope biogeochemistry. Goldsmith is also deeply involved in research focused on assessing how mobile technology can be used to provide effective informal science learning experiences. Prior to joining the faculty, he was a Marie Curie postdoctoral research fellow in the Ecosystem Fluxes Research Group at the Paul Scherrer Institute and a postdoctoral research associate in the Environmental Change Institute at Oxford University. Goldsmith is an Explorer of the National Geographic Society.
