Biography

Dr. Craig Fowler is Professor and Chair of Surgery for CUSOM. A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Dr. Fowler is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine who Fellowship trained in Corneal & External Disease, Ocular Microbiology, & Refractive Surgery from 1989-1991. A specialist in Cornea Transplantation, Cataract & Refractive Surgery, Dr. Fowler was an Assistant Professor at Duke University School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology 1992 -2000 and started the vision correction (refractive eye surgery) program at Duke Eye Center in 1992. Dr. Fowler is a former Medical Director Duke University’s Medical Free Electron Laser Laboratory Research Program, Former Chair of Faculty, EBAA’s Technician Education Program (national & international), and was a Tenured Faculty member at the UNC School of Medicine 2004 -2013 Clinical Associate Professor UNC School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology. He was also Chief of Surgical Services for the Veteran’s Administration FVAMC 2013 -2015.
