Biography

Cengiz Alacaci received his doctoral degree in mathematics education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1998. After working as a post-doctoral research associate at the Learning Research and Development Center of the University of Pittsburgh for a year, he joined Florida International University in Miami, Florida USA. He is tenured and promoted to associate professor rank at FIU. He then joined Bilkent University as a visiting associate professor at Bilkent University, Graduate School of Education. He taught courses on mathematics education, curriculum development, and assessment. He served as a Vice-Chair for the National Board of Education of National Ministry of Education, responsible for curriculum development and textbooks between 2012 - 2014. Dr. Alacaci is currently a professor of mathematics education at Ä°stanbul Medeniyet University, Faculty of Educational Sciences since 2014.

Research Intrest

Dr. Alacaci’s research interests include mathematics teacher education, mathematical problem solving, mathematical modeling, mathematics curriculum development and comparative mathematics education. He secured grants and published on these topics in such journals as International Journal of Educational Development, Journal of Mathematical Behavior, Journal of Statistics Education, and International Journal of Education in Science and Technology.
