A. N. M. Fakhruddin graduated with Honours from the Department of Biochemistry, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Then he obtained his M. Sc. (Research) degree in Microbiology from the same University. During his M.Sc. research, he worked on the production of extracellular alkaline proteases from bacteria. He obtained Ph.D. degree from School of Biotechnology, Dublin City University, Ireland. During Doctoral Study, his research area was biodegradation of chlorophenols. During the course of his Ph.D. studies, Fakhruddin was also involved in teaching and demonstrating across a number of science disciplines in the school of Biotechnology, Dublin City University.After completion of his M.Sc. degree, he worked as a Quality control Officer in Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited, one of the leading Pharmaceutical Company in Bangladesh. There after he switched to Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and worked there for over 11 years as Scientific Officer and Senior Scientific Officer. In Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, his research areas were Food Microbiology and Environmental Biotechnology. He joined in Department of Environmental Sciences, Jahangirnagar University as Assistant Professor on November 2006, later he was promoted to Associate Professor and Professor on May 2009 and August 2013, respectively. Currently his research fields are Environmental Microbiology, Water and Wastewater Treatment, Development of Biodegradable Plastics, Bioremediation of Persistent Organic Pollutants, and Bioaccumulation and Biodegradation of Pesticides. Fakhruddin have about 80 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
