Prof. Koumoulis received his bachelor's degree from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and his Master's degree in Materials Science and Technology from the same university. He completed his PhD degree on the subject of Strongly Correlated Electron Systems (condensed matter physics) in the NMR laboratory of the Institute of Materials Science (Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, INN) of NCSR "Demokritos" and the NTUA. In 2012, he moved to United States to conduct research as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). During his postdoctoral studies, he closely collaborated with many research groups nationally and internationally (Northwestern University, UCLA, RWTH Aachen, UCR, UCSB). He performed research on-site at UCLA, but also as Visiting Scientist at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) and at the Centre for Molecular & Materials Science (CMMS) at TRIUMF (beta-detected NMR and muon spin rotation); Canada's national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics, Vancouver. In March 2017, he joined ShanghaiTech University as an Assistant Professorã€PI.
