Research Intrest

Diabetes and obesity epidemiology; food environments and dietary behaviors; neighborhood influences on health; health disparities. There is growing evidence that the "production" of diseases is a result of social and environmental factors that interact with individual-level biological substrates. Disentangling the manner in which these factors interact in the pathogenesis of disease continues to challenge researchers. A primary focus of Dr. Grigsby-Toussaint's research is to integrate measures of the social and built environments into disease models with the goal of effectively addressing the impact of disease risk in ethnic minority and vulnerable populations. Her long-term goal is to use these models to develop targeted programs that consider the individual-level risk factors associated with the onset of disease within the context of social and environmental influences.
