Antonio Di Guardo graduated in 1989 in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Milan. The Ph.D. (in Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pesticide Ecology) was then awarded in 1994. ADG was then "Postdoctoral Fellow" (1994-1996) at the Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Toronto, Canada under the Supervising Prof. Don Mackay, developing models for studying the environmental fate of molecules. From 1996 to 2005 he was a researcher at the Faculty of Physical and Natural Mathematical Sciences at the University of Insubria, home of Varese. From 2005 to present ADG is Associate Professor of Ecology at the Faculty of Mathematical Physics and Natural Sciences of Como (now Department of Science and High Tech)
The scientific activity of Prof. Di Guardo is in the field of ecotoxicology. More attention is given to the study of the bio-geochemical cycle of xenobiotic substances, their properties and their behavior in the environment, adopting different approaches. First of all through the development, calibration and experimental testing of multimedia models at various spatial and temporal scales: models for the study of the transport of contaminants in soil, water, regional models, bioaccumulation in the trophic network, etc., which allow to evaluate The distribution and concentrations of chemicals placed in the environment and, ultimately, to evaluate the exposure of organisms to a particular chemical compound. In addition to the models, Prof. Di Guardo has dealt with the measurement of physical chemical properties of molecules, bioaccumulation in vegetable biomass and in aquatic trophic chains. This was achieved by combining environmental modeling (monitoring of concentrations in various phases) carried out in the laboratory led by Prof. Di Guardo or in collaboration with other groups
