Managing global environmental problems and moving towards a more sustainable development in general represent key challenges for the 21st century. Integrated assessment modeling forms an important tool to support policy making by allowing to explore different possible futures with respect to socio-economic development and associated impacts for the global environment. The model can do this by studying the complex interactions between drivers, environmental impacts and human development goals, but also by showing the relationships across scale and between short-term decisions and long-term consequences. The key objective here is describe the relevant systems as best as we can. For this, it is necessary to integrate information of different scientific disciplines and put it in the context of decision-making processes. I am very motivated in improving decision-making processes by providing relevant information by applying IAMs for scenario analysis, participate in assessment processes, but also to further develop these models. I strongly believe that PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and Utrecht University can work together in this area. The description below provides some more details about me and my work.
