Biography

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, University of Nairobi anddo hold a PhD degree in Chemistry. I have taught both undergraduate and postgraduate classes in the Department of Chemistry, other Departments and Schools in the University for the last 24 years. I have successfully supervised 40 fourth year projects, and seventeen postgraduate project students (five PhD and twelve MSc students). Currently, I am supervising seven postgraduate students comprising of one Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry, two Master of Science in Environmental Chemistry and four Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry. I have authored/co-authored twenty five papers in peer reviewed journals, several reports and monograms, a teaching module for First year Inorganic Chemistry and filed two patent rights. I have examined thirteen Master of Science, three PhD Chemistry theses and have been a member of several Examination Boards. I am the Inorganic Chemistry Section Head, Chemistry Evening Program Committee Chairman , and Chemistry Coordinator, Open & Distance Learning Program. I am an external examiner for inorganic/industrial chemistry at Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT). I am a registered Lead Expert with National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) and have been Chairman of Kenya Bureau of Standards Technical Committee on Water Treatment. I have carried out several successful consultancies particularly in the water sector as well as air quality both for private enterprises and the Government of Kenya.
