Cindy Jarvis, M.A., joined Azusa Pacific University in 2013 and is the co-developer of the sport management emphasis. She is also the principal at Santa Fe Springs Christian School. She spent 11 years working as an athletic director at an elementary/junior high school in Santa Fe Springs, California, and also taught physical education to K-8 students. With a clean slate, she developed the core physical education curriculum for the school and implemented a yearly scope and sequence in compliance with the Association of Christian Schools International and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Jarvis volunteered for the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association, running basketball clinics and assisting with special events. The Sparks then hired her as director of community relations, where from 1999-2004 she worked closely with WNBA and NBA players in promoting the WNBA in Los Angeles. In addition, she worked as the sports, recreation, and aquatics director for a community center in Long Beach. Some of her most impressive accomplishments were the development of youth triathlons, a restructured swim university, the creation of youth sports leagues, and many community-wide collaborative projects. As assistant general manager of AdventurePlex in Manhattan Beach, California, she was instrumental in developing new programs for kids and families and managed a $1.5 million budget that encompassed the recreation and sports facility, staff, programming, and outreach efforts. Jarvis also worked as an independent contractor with sports and nonsports companies that wanted to increase their community footprint, modifying and/or creating comprehensive marketing plans for them.
