Prof. Dr. Christian P. Speer, FRCPE was born in Kassel and studied human medicine in Göttingen. After completing his doctorate, he began his specialist training at the University Children's Hospital in Göttingen, which was interrupted by a two-year research stay at the National Jewish Hospital and Research Center in Denver, USA. In 1986, he was appointed Clinical Surgeon and was habilitated in the same year. A short time later he received a professorship for pediatrics. In 1994, he was appointed Medical Director of the Department of Neonatology of the University Children's Clinic of Tübingen, and in 1996 he was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh. In 1999, he took over the chair for pediatrics at the University of Würzburg.
