Dr. Gertrude, Theresa Uzoamaka Chiaha was born in Ogoja, Cross River state in 1951 by Mrs. Gertrude Enu late Mr. Felix Enu a renowned Head Master from Eke in Udi Local government area of Enugu State. Gertrude is married to Dr S. C. Chiaha of Imezi-Olo in Ezeagu L.G.A of Enugu state, Nigeria, with ten children. She has the following qualifications, all from the University of Ibadan: Associateship Certificate in Education (1978); Bachelors Degree (B.Ed) in Language Arts and Special Education (Second Class Honours, Upper Division, 1982) ; Master’s Degree (Med) in Educational Management (Planning and Administration, 1984) and Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Educational Management (Planning and Administration, 1999) in addition to First School Leaving Certificate, West African School Certificate (WAEC) and GCE A/Levels in two papers.Dr Chiaha has served in several capacities as: a Grade two Teacher (TCII) at Sacred Heart Private School, Ring Road, Ibadan Nigeria, between1974-1978; Grade I teacher at St. Patrick’s Secondary School, Emene, Enugu Nigeria, between 1979-1979; NYSC Primary Assignment at Government College Ibadan, Nigeria 1982-1983; B.Ed. Tutor at Baptist Grammar School Ibadan, Nigeria, between1983-1985; Lecturer II at St. Augustine’s College of Education, Akoka-Yaba Lagos, Nigeria, 1985-1986. Later she became the Acting Registrar of the same College of Education between 1986 and 1999, after which she was appointed a Substantive Registrar of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri where she served between 1999- 2005 as registrar and secretary to council during the period. At the end of her tenure, she proceeded to the Federal University Owerri for her Sabbatical Leave in 2004 as Deputy Registrar- Special Duties, after which she secured an appointment at the University of Nigeria Nsukka as a Lecturer 1 in 2005 where she is currently serving as a Senior Lecturer. This implies that she has over 20 years of professional, practical and theoretical experiences in Educational Management (Planning and Administration) of higher education. As a lecturer in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, she coordinates undergraduate programmes and teaches post graduate (Post Graduate Diploma; Master’s and Doctorate Degree) students. She supervises post graduate students’ projects including PGDE, Med and PhD Thesis. She has served several times as internal examiner of the Masters and PhD students’ proposals, Seminars and PhD oral examinations.Currently, she is on sabbatical leave at the Benue State University (BSU, supervises PhD students and their projects.Dr, Gertrude is computer literate and has over 50 research works, of which 46 have been published. Of the published ones, six are books and 11 chapters in books/ conference proceedings of which 30 are in reputable journals. Out of these, 18 are published in international journals, of which 13 are in Impact Factor rated journals. Dr. Gertrude Chiaha is a member of many professional bodies and organizations and has received several awards among which are; Academic Noble award by the Nigerian Institute for industrial Administration (NIIA) (2010); Best Performing Nigeria Public Officer Award of Excellence by the Chattered Institute of Public Administrators of Nigeria (2000) ; Women of Merit Gold Award (2002) by the Peoples State and Resources (PSR) Magazine; Mother of Ladies merit award, by the Ladies Forum, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri 2001,2002, 2003;Certificate of Merit Award by National Association of Marketers, Federal Polytechnic, Chapter; Certificate of Merit, Student’s Union Government (Campus ladies forum; Federal Polytechnic, Nekcde, Owerri Fellow of NASU (2005); Women of the year 2005 by Board of International Research America Biographical Inc. (ABI) California. A chieftaincy title of Adaoha of Nekede was conferred on her by the Eze, Ede III of Nekede, during the 30th anniversary of his reign. She is the President Elect/ In Coming President of Rotary Club International, Nsukka (2015-2016).
