Biography

Catherine J. Lee, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/BMT at the Huntsman Cancer Center, University of Utah. Dr. Lee earned her B.A. in Public Health Medicine from Johns Hopkins University in 2000 and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society upon graduation. She received her medical degree (M.D.) at New York University School of Medicine in 2007. She completed fellowships in Pain & Palliative Care Medicine (with a focus on the care of cancer patients) at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Hematology/Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, and most recently, Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) at Stanford University. She also enhanced her specialty training in hematopoietic cell transplantation by working with transplant experts on the clinical BMT units of the Fred Hutchinson Bone Marrow Transplant Program/SCCA in Seattle, WA. Dr. Lee's clinical expertise is in Blood and Marrow Transplantation. She specializes in autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplants for the treatment of malignant and benign hematologic diseases. She is also developing a Long-Term Follow-Up/Survivorship Program for patients treated with hematopoietic cell transplantation. This program is designed to monitor the health and quality of life (QoL) of patients after transplant, and also provides medical care specific to hematopoietic cell transplantation and its side effects, including chronic graft vs. host disease (GVHD), medication management, and surveillance for secondary malignancies and other late effects of transplant. Lastly, she continues to maintain a broad clinical interest in immunotherapies. Dr. Lee's current research activities are associated with the long-term care and survivorship of patients who have received an atutologous or allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation. She is developing clinical trials for the treatment of chronic GVHD, as well as designing and analyzing multidisciplinary interventions to improve the monitoring and management of post-transplant care. She is a member of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) Working Committees for Graft vs Host Disease and Late Effects. In addition to her clinical and research activities, Dr. Lee is an active and involved teacher of residents, fellows, and medical students. Dr. Lee is a member of the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, American Society of Hematology, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
