Dr. Shapiro has taught at D'Youville since September of 1977. Her primary teaching duties are in Microbiology, Immunology and Human Biology. Her graduate degrees were awarded for work in medical microbiology, and she maintains a research interest in this field, particularly in the area of host-parasite relationships. Dr. Shapiro is active in several professional organizations, including the Association for Women in Science, the American Society of Microbiology, and Sigma Xi.
