Biography

Dr. Benjamin Abbadessa is a board-certified colorectal surgeon and full-time faculty member at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in the Department of Surgery. He is a graduate of Boston College and SUNY Upstate Medical University and completed his 5-year general surgery residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. This was followed by a 1-year fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida. As an attending surgeon at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Dr. Abbadessa specializes in colon and rectal surgery with special interests in the functional and oncologic outcomes of robotic rectal cancer resection and the treatment of fecal incontinence with sacral nerve stimulation. In addition, he offers a breadth of minimally invasive techniques including laparoscopic, robotic and transanal surgery to treat conditions including colorectal cancer, diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative Colitis and rectal prolapse. Dr. Abbadessa has recently published peer-reviewed articles on various colorectal topics and he remains an active member of numerous colorectal and general surgery societies.
