Hisham S. Basha is Dean of College of Engineering, and a Professor of Civil Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rafik Hariri University (RHU) since September 2015. Prof. Basha has obtained his BE degree from Beirut Arab University in 1987, and earned his MS (1990) and Ph.D. (1994) degrees in Civil Engineering (Structures) from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. Following his post-doctorate appointment (1994-1995) at the University of Michigan where he developed a novel seismic resistant structural system, Special Truss Moment Frames (STMF), approved by ICBO and included the Uniform Building Code, UBC 1996, Dr. Basha joint Hart Consultant Group, in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California as a senior consultant engineer until September 1996, after which he devoted his career to teaching and research at Beirut Arab University for 19 years before joining RHU. Dr. Basha spent a six-month sabbatical leave (1999) in University of Michigan as a Visiting Research Professor where he was involved in conducting further research.
Professor Basha’s research studies have led to numerous publications in technical journals and symposia proceedings worldwide. He supervised and served on defense jury of several MS and Ph.D. students at BAU and AUB.
