Basem Hasan Albash was born in 1964, Manama, Bahrain. He received his Ph.D. in Sciences du langages from the Université de Strasbourg, France, in 2009, and his Master’s Degree in Sciences du langages from the Université de Franche-Comté, Besançon, France, in 2005. Dr. Basem joined Ahlia University in 2009 as an Assistant Professor of the French Language and as a Chairperson of the Department of Foreign Languages. Prior to joining Ahlia University, he worked as a lecturer at the University of Bahrain from 1989 to 2005. During this time he was involved in the promotion of the French Language at the UOB and the creation of the Centre d’Etudes Françaises: he developed the learning programs such as the Minor in French (1994) and the French Associated Diploma with the cooperation of the Université de Franche-Comté-France in France (1998) as well as preparing students for DELF and DALF examinations. Dr AlBash was a member of the French Consultative Committee – Directorate of Curriculum, Ministry of Education- Bahrain and attended several training courses in France.
Dr Basem’s research interest is the area of French as a Foreign Language as well as sociolinguistic that deals with language variation in urban context.
