Biography

Prof. Barathi is a Vet & molecular biologist with research focused on understanding the molecular mechanism of myopia, diabetic retinopathy and Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Her research has led to the translational and pre-clinical testing of ocular diseases using specific animal models. She regularly peer reviews at least five international journals and also regularly reviews Singhealth IACUC animal study protocols. Currently holds competitive research grants from National Medical Research Council (NMRC); BioMedical Research Council (BMRC) and Industry funding. She is a chairman of Singhealth Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). She is currently an adjunct Assistant Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology, National University of Singapore and National University Hospital and at DUKE-NUS Graduate Medical School.She heads the Ocular Disease Model Research Platform at the Singapore Eye Research Institute holding the position of a Senior Research Scientist.

Research Intrest

Animal models of ocular diseases, Pathophysiology & pharmacological intervention of Myopia, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy and Age-related Macular Degeneration.
