Ashley Stephen, PhD, grew up on the West Coast of Scotland and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) with honors in Forensic Anthropology at the University of Dundee prior to completing her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) for a thesis entitled “The Effects of Intensive Sports Training on the Growth Plate and Subsequent Biomechanical Development of the Long Bones: A Pilot Study.” Her research—which was a multidisciplinary collaboration between the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHId), the Institute of Motion Analysis and Research (IMAR), and the Institute of Sport and Exercise (ISE)—enabled the unique utilization of advanced motion capture technologies combined with magnetic resonance imaging to assess the development of young, elite athletes. In 2011, Dr. Stephen won the award for best student poster at a Society for the Study of Human Biology symposium. The following year, she presented at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) in Glasgow for the International CSEMIS conference.
