For all living organisms, copper is essential but in excess, is extremely toxic. Wilson disease and Menkes disease are two major disorders of copper homeostasis. My laboratory is interested to understand the mechanism of copper entry and exit into mammalian cells. Towards that goal we are trying to understand how the mammalian copper importer channel CTR1 and copper exporting pumps ATP7A and ATP7A functions and is regulated by other proteins
