Annette Karim, PT, DPT, Ph.D., OCS, FAAOMPT, joined the Department of Physical Therapy in January 2016 as an assistant professor. She is an active physical therapy professional specializing in orthopaedics, dance medicine, and manual therapy. Karim is a graduate of the Harris Health System’s orthopaedic residency, and the Manual Therapy Institute’s fellowship in manual therapy, which she also serves as a mentoring fellow. She is the president of the Performing Arts Special Interest Group (PASIG) of the Orthopaedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association, also serving as an Orthopaedic Section mentor and on the PASIG Performing Arts Fellowship Task Force. She also serves on Dance USA’s Task Force on Dancer Health, and screens professional dancers annually in the Los Angeles area. She spends her time away from campus providing rehabilitation and wellness care to dancers in clinics and backstage, and speaks on wellness and prevention at dance festivals and university dance programs. She has taught ballet, pointe, jazz, and tap for more than 25 years.
