Biography

Ann B. Townsend’s nursing career has spanned over four decades in direct clinical care of acutely ill clients. Dr. Townsend has been an advanced practice nurse for over 20 years and holds national certifications as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Medical Surgical Nursing, an Adult Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care, and is a Certified Emergency Nurse. Dr. Townsend’s clinical settings have been concentrated in cardiovascular nursing across the health continuum. Dr. Townsend has served as adjunct graduate nursing faculty in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware teaching Nursing Research and Advanced Health Assessment; she has been a clinical instructor in the nurse practitioner tracts for Primary Care of the Adult. Dr. Townsend was the recipient of a Robert Wood Johnson Grant (2010) to improve Transitions of Care in New Jersey, a Cardinal Health Grant for Transitions of Care (2012), and a research grant (2013) for the Emergency Nurses Foundation to study Computer Support of Evidence-based Decision Making of Emergency Department Nurses.
