Biography

Ph.D. in Operations Research (2001), North Carolina State University (U.S.A.); M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering (1995), Universidad de los Andes (Colombia); B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering (1992), Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Colombia). Andrés Medaglia is professor and chair of the Industrial Engineering and the director of the Centro para la Optimización y Probabilidad Aplicada (COPA) at Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia). Since 1999 and until the completion of his postdoctoral fellowship, he worked as an optimization specialist developing decision support systems for the Supply Chain Center at SAS. In 2002, he joined the Industrial Engineering Department at Universidad de los Andes (ABET accredited program). His research in optimization (techniques and applications) has led to over 40 peer-reviewed publications. He has served as Secretary and Vicepresident of the Latin-Ibero American Association of OR; as Vicepresident of Central/South America for the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers; and as the Vicepresident of the Colombian Operational Research Society (ASOCIO). In INFORMS, he has served in the Transportation Science & Logistics Society (TSL) as the Liason for the Americas and in the Best Paper Award Committee. He has been the (co-) recipient of several prizes, among others, the first prize in the 2011 INFORMS Railway Application Section Problem Solving Competition and the EURO Award for the Best EJOR (Review) Paper in 2015. He has (co-)advised students who have won the AIMMS-MOPTA Optimization Modeling Competition (2016), the Wilson Tang Best Paper (2016), IISE Student Paper Competition-Construction Division (2014), and the IISE/Rockwell Software Student Simulation Competition (2004), among others. Research Intrest

My current research interests include the development and application of optimization techniques to transportation and logistics, healthcare, and (systems) engineering design. I truly enjoy working on multidisciplinary projects. I am currently engaged in projects with colleagues from Civil and Environmental Engineering and the School of Medicine.
