Biography

Racial/ethnic inequalities in health services, substance abuse treatment, performance measures Andrea Acevedo, Ph.D., is an Assistant Research Professor in the Institute for Behavioral Health at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management. Her primary research interests are in racial/ethnic inequalities in access and quality of health services, particularly those related to substance use disorders. Dr. Acevedo worked as part of the evaluation team of various SAMHSA-funded grants, and as the evaluator of various Boston community health programs. In those capacities, she worked with grantees and program staff on developing measurement tools, and provided technical assistance on data collection and quality improvement. She has been and continues to be involved in the development and testing of performance measures for substance abuse treatment. She has worked on an AHRQ-funded study to understand ways of improving nursing home quality reports to meet the needs of minority community members. Dr. Acevedo is currently working on studies examining how community characteristics may impact disparities in substance abuse treatment quality and outcomes, understanding disparities in substance abuse treatment for adolescents, the impact of interventions with treatment providers to improve treatment performance, and the impact of initiatives for providers to use prescription drug monitoring programs.
