Dr Mambanda’s research focuses on the applications of electrochemical methods for trace analysis of toxic pollutants in environmental samples (e.g. waste waters, soils and dusts, sediments and trade effluents). This includes the surface modification of microelectrodes and their applications in in-vitro detection of biologically-relevant molecules and trace analytes in environmental samples. He also studies the kinetic and mechanisms of substitution reactions of Pt (II) metal complexes with anti-tumour potential and has over 10 years teaching experience at a tertiary level.
Investigating into the mechanism and substitution kinetics of square-planar Pt(II)/Pd(II) complexes and application of electrochemical methods of analysis for Environmental analysis. Dr. Mambanda's research focus is on the synthesis, characterization, computational modeling and kinetics studies of coordination complexes and compounds, specifically on the kinetics of substitution reactions of square-planar platinum and octahedral ruthenium complexes. He also has interests in studying the electrochemical behaviour of the said complexes. His other interest spans the applications of electrochemical methods for trace analysis of toxic pollutants in environmental samples.
