Professor Pediatrics
Biography

Dr. Carey is an assistant professor of pediatrics at Drexel University College of Medicine. Education: Georgetown University School of Medicine. As a neonatologist, Alison Carey, M.D., sees many premature babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) who develop lung infections. "Infections are a major cause of death for these babies," says Dr. Carey, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Immunology at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia.

Research Intrest

Dr. Carey's research seeks to identify mechanisms and potential modifiable risk factors for infants' susceptibility to infections using animal models, in vitro work and ex vivo studies on human cord blood. Her lab has established a clinically relevant model of neonatal influenza virus infection in 3-day-old neonatal mice in order to focus on both the adaptive and innate immune response to viral infection.
