I hold a Ph.D. degree from the University of Leicester in Geochemistry (1988). I have since then been engaged in teaching, and research at the Department of Geology, University of Nairobi. I have been Dean, Faculty of Science and Dean, School of Physical Sciences, University of Nairobi (2003-2007). I have since 2007 represented Africa in the technical working group (WGB) of the International Monitoring Stations for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). In this capacity I am the Task leader for National Data Centers (NDCs) worldwide.
