I am doing research work on solid state ionic materials (solid polymer electrolytes doped with salt/ or Ionic Liquids) for developing solid state ionic devices such as batteries, fuel cell, super capacitors etc. Solid polymeric electrolytes continue to attract research interest due to their important properties (such as electrical, thermal and mechanical etc.) which makes them suitable for various electrochemical and technological applications. Recently, incorporation of ionic liquids (ILs) in polymers is being attempted because it can act both as plasticizer and ion supplying material which collectively enhance the ionic conductivity of the polymer electrolyte system. ILs generally consists of a bulky organic cation and an inorganic or organic anion, and is liquid at room temperature. ILs is non-flammable, recyclable, higher thermal & chemical stability and exhibit low vapor pressure, which reduces the possibility of air pollution and loss of materials at ambient conditions. Polymer electrolyte films based on polymer/salt/ionic liquid was prepared using solution cast technique/hot press technique. These films were characterized using TGA, DSC, XRD, FT-IR and ac impedance spectroscopic techniques.
