Dr Mahomed obtained his undergraduate, Honours, Masters (Natural Products Chemistry) and PhD Degrees in Chemistry at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He was employed at Sasol Technology R&D, the research arm of Sasol Ltd where he worked for 10 years in various roles. He was also the technical manager for the Analytical Laboratories for the Solvents business unit for all plants located in Secunda and Sasolburg. He has also been involved in the co-supervision of Masters and PhD students whilst in the employ of Sasol and is currently co-supervising two Masters and two PhD students. To date he has published several papers in accredited, peer-reviewed journals and has also presented at international and national conferences. His future plans include development and analysis of new materials to understand their macro- and micro-structure for applications in CO2 management, analytical separations, oxidation/reduction catalysis and CO degradation for automotive fuel cell applications
