Torkel has been working since 1990 with a special focus on cardiology (the theory of heart disease and physiology) and internal medicine. He is a Stage II specialist in cardiology and has since 2002 held a part-time job at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Basic Animal Science, formerly KVL or, in other words, the Danish Veterinary College. In February 2008, he defended his dissertation "Canine Arteriosclerosis, Occurance and Importance" at the above-mentioned institution. For many years he worked at Djursjukhuset in Helsingborg but has worked at the Small Animal Clinic Your Veterinarian in Helsingborg in recent years. The aim of Torkel's work in Gothenburg is to strengthen cardiology and internal medicine, as well as to develop the work of clinical research and in collaboration with the veterinarian Björn Åblad, to establish a cardiological center at Blåstjärnan Djursjukhus.
