Biography

Sarah Black is an enthusiastic and driven physiotherapist who is passionate about human movement and anatomy. She graduated with a Masters in Physical Therapy in 2011, from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. There she was awarded the school’s clinical excellence prize. This award is given to the recipient who achieves exceptional overall performance reviews from mentoring therapists. Prior to her time spent at McGill, Sarah completed a Bachelors in Science in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa. She has continued to pursue post-graduate education to advance her hands on skills and client outcomes. Some of which include Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, Functional Dry Needling and Active Release Techniques commonly known as A.R.T. She is one of the few practicing physiotherapists in Ottawa who is ‘Full Body’ certified in A.R.T. The treatment is a patent soft tissue mobilization technique, which involves the therapist hands and the client’s active movement. The goal of treatment is to identify adherences or trigger points in structures related to the injury (muscle, tendon, ligament, nerve or fascial tissue) and release them to decrease pain or restore joint movement and function. This technique has allowed Sarah to successfully treat those of all ages with acute or chronic conditions. She also has a keen interest in biomechanics of sports and has provided treatment to athletes participating in baseball, soccer, football and dancers from professional ballet companies. Outside the clinic, Sarah was raised on a dairy farm and grew up figure skating competitively. She enjoys staying active at the gym, walking the dog and watching football.
