Originally a native of West Virginia, Dr. McKimmie moved to North Carolina after receiving his undergraduate degree from Harvard. He completed medical school and his Internal Medicine residency at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital and his Gastroenterology fellowship at Ohio State University Medical Center. Dr. McKimmie joined the group in 2013. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His memberships include the American Medical Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the North Carolina Society of Gastroenterology.
