Long before Robert Bass, M.D., saw his first orthopaedic patient, he was one himself. As an athletic youth growing up in Austin while his father, an oral surgeon, was stationed at Fort Hood, he suffered a shoulder separation and a knee injury. During treatment, he got a close look at the specialty and liked what he saw. Dr. Bass attended UT Austin and graduated from UT Southwestern Medical School. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Iowa, then undertook advanced training in a hand and microsurgery fellowship in Cincinnati, where he saw thousands of patients with hand injuries and earned certification as a hand surgery specialist. After completing his training, Dr. Bass practiced hand surgery with a group in Colorado. He then spent several years each at UT Southwestern and Baylor, and in private practice in Frisco, Texas, before rejoining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2013. Along with fellow hand surgeon Timothy Schacherer, M.D., Dr. Bass offers comprehensive surgical care for the hand, wrist, elbow, arm, and shoulder.
