Biography

Dr. Sara Nottingham joined Chapman University’s Athletic Training Program in 2011. She teaches coursework in therapeutic interventions and evidence-based practice, including rehabilitation, manual therapy, and therapeutic modalities. Dr. Nottingham also served as the athletic training program’s clinical education coordinator from 2012-2017. Dr. Nottingham conducts research on clinical education, faculty development, mentoring, and professional issues in athletic training using primarily qualitative research methods. Her work has been published in the Journal of Athletic Training, Athletic Training Education Journal, and the International Journal of Athletic Therapy and Training. Her research has also been funded by the NATA Research and Education Foundation. Dr. Nottingham is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and Far West Athletic Trainers’ Association (FWATA). She serves on the NATA’s Executive Committee for Education, NATA Foundation Free Communications Sub-Committee, the FWATA Research and Grants Committee, and helps coordinate the NATA Foundation Faculty Mentor Program. Dr. Nottingham’s clinical athletic training experience is primarily in the Division I athletics setting, in addition to the collegiate intramurals, community college, and high school settings. She is also a certified instructor for CPR through the American Red Cross.
