Dr. Michelle Cleary obtained her Ph.D. with a concentration in athletic training/sports medicine from Temple University in Philadelphia and completed an accredited undergraduate curriculum in Athletic Training from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Her research line involves heat related muscle injury/illness and other sport safety issues and she has published numerous articles and been invited to write national position statements and make national presentations on the topic. Dr. Cleary is a certified athletic trainer by the National Athletic Trainers Association; certified instructor in CPR and first aid for the professional rescuer by the American Heart Association, and a certified Strength and Conditioning Coach. Her clinical experience includes five years as a high school athletic trainer, four years as Division I Athletic trainer, and international/Olympic level medical coverage. Dr. Cleary has taught at Temple University Medical School, Florida International University, and the University of Hawaii, prior to joining the faculty at Chapman University in Fall 2012. Dr. Cleary has taught courses in human anatomy and physiology, medical human gross anatomy, physical rehabilitation, surface anatomy, medical terminology, research methods, and courses throughout the athletic training curriculum. She is an actively engaged member of the American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, and the National Athletic Trainers Association.
