Dr. Justin Smith completed neurosurgery residency at the University of California San Francisco and has completed spine surgery fellowships in the areas of adult and pediatric spinal deformity (University of Virginia) and degenerative spine surgery (Northwestern University). He is currently a Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Virginia and serves as faculty for neurosurgery residents and fellows and serves as co-director of the spine fellowship program and co-director of the UVA Spine Center. Dr. Smith’s practice is predominantly spinal surgery and includes cervical and thoracolumbar deformity reconstruction, oncology, trauma, degenerative disease, and complex revision surgery. His research interests focus on clinical outcomes of spinal surgery, and he has published extensively in this and other areas, with more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts and more than 500 presented abstracts at national and international meetings.
