John has been the Chief Executive Officer of Alzheimer’s Australia NSW since September 2008. He is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Centre for Emotional Health at Macquarie University and an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Western Sydney. John worked as a teacher for 16 years until his election to Parliament in 1995, where he served for 13 years. John served for 10 years as a Minister, including the portfolios of Fair Trading, Sport and Recreation, Police and Corrective Services, Transport, Finance, State Development, and Education and Training. He was Deputy Premier when he retired in 2008. Subsequently, has also served as Chancellor of the University of New England in 2013 and 2014. John was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2015 for significant service to the community through leadership positions with health organisations, to tertiary education, and to the Parliament of NSW
