Dr Davis's research interests are in the fields of dissemination and implementation research.  Specifically, his focus is on the community translation of evidence-based findings that improve health care practice and the health of adults with chronic diseases.  His research activity is in the field of diabetes in which he has received NIH (NIDDK) support to evaluate Telehealth as a means to conduct diabetes self-management training by expert providers for adults with diabetes in underserved communities.  Research findings have shown improvements in metabolic control and reduced cardiovascular risk as well as improved processes of care such as annual retinal assessments. Recent work has been focused on applying disease management approaches to the management of Dry Eye Disease (DED).  In this setting, principles of self-management including goal setting, and social support may provide a novel approach for the management of DED. Recently, Dr Davis was awarded a Center for Diabetes Translation Research along with Dr Michael Pignone, Division Chief of General Medicine, Department of Medicine. The main goal of this NIH-funded research infrastructure, one of seven funded Centers nationally, is to provide UNC researchers with research support that results in additional NIH awards, which demonstrate effective interventions that reduce health disparities and improve health.
