Biography

 Melana Tysowsky is a physiotherapist with experience in a number of clinical areas including pediatrics, neurology, orthopedics, sports medicine and chronic pain. She works to provide treatment and care for patients with varying musculoskeletal and neurological concerns. Before joining FSHN full-time, Melana had completed a three month clinical rotation at the Institute in early 2016, as part of an ongoing training program for Doctorate of Physical Therapy students at Duke University. She has also completed a clinical rotation focusing on pediatric physiotherapy at Cincinnati Children's Hospital’s Perlman Center, and a clinical rotation at Pivot Physical Therapy focusing on orthopedic physiotherapy. Melana earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Duke University in 2016, and her Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts from Adelphi University in New York in 2009. Melana has completed additional training in kinesiotaping, dry needling techniques, and sensory integration. She has also completed Graded Motor Imagery training through the NOI group, which supplements traditional physiotherapy in the treatment of chronic pain such as chronic spinal pain, chronic regional pain syndrome, neuropathic pain and phantom limb. Melana also provides dance specific injury prevention and rehabilitation services, informed by her more than 20 years of dance experience.
