Biography

Dr. Eftekhari is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Eftekhari completed his undergraduate degree at Stanford University and was a visiting student at Oxford University. He then went on to complete his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. In medical school, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and recipient of the Agnew Fellowship for surgical research and the Charles Oliver award for excellence in ophthalmology research.  Dr. Eftekhari completed his residency at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. After residency, he completed a prestigious two-year fellowship sponsored by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in oculoplastic and facial surgery with Dr. Richard Anderson in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Eftekhari published a thesis on the effects of prostaglandins on orbital fat and has been inducted as a member of ASOPRS. Dr. Eftekhari has published papers in peer-reviewed journals on topics including periocular cancer, blepharospasm, and aesthetic eyelid surgery. He serves as a reviewer for ophthalmology and aesthetic surgery journals and is a writer of board-examination review materials in ophthalmology. Research Intrest

Dr. Eftekhari's clinical interests include: eyelid and orbital tumors, thyroid eye disease, eyelid malpositions (ptosis, entropion, ectropion), eyelid, eyebrow, and cheek reconstruction following Mohs' surgery, tear duct surgery, aesthetic and reconstructive eyelid and eyebrow surgery, blepharospasm and facial spasms, scar modulation and revision surgery, and eyelid and orbital trauma. Dr. Eftekhari utilizes a customized, patient-centered approach to both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. He believes in using a combination of non-surgical and surgical approaches to facial rejuvenation including neurotoxins, dermal fillers, and fat transfer surgery.
