I take great satisfaction in rapid visual rehabilitation of patients with a cataract and/or corneal disease. This requires exacting surgical procedures and a team approach. The process includes assessment of the patient’s complaint, accurate measurement of the eye by a qualified ophthalmic technician to calculate the intraocular lens power that will be placed in the eye at the time of cataract surgery, and an expert nursing staff in the operating room to operate complex ophthalmic equipment with precision in cataract surgery and corneal transplant surgery. My responsibility is to ensure that this is all possible. I personally perform a complete eye examination on all my patients prior to surgery. I have trained my ophthalmic technicians to place the highest priority on calculating the correct intraocular lens power to be used in cataract surgery. I have worked closely with the anesthesiologists to establish a system of topical anesthesia for cataract surgery, which allows for rapid visual rehabilitation. I have ensured that the nurses in the operating room have expertise in operating ophthalmic surgical instruments. All this allows me to employ the latest surgical techniques in cataract and intraocular lens-implant surgery and/or corneal transplant surgery.
