If I could be passionate about something inanimate, says Katie, my life would be much less complicated. But she knows it wouldn’t be nearly as rich. The barn is her happy place and it’s easy to see. Katie believes horse people recognize other horse people right away and that’s why owners and dealers trust her advice. They also trust the relentless research that stands behind everything she does at Purina. She works with micro-nutrients relatively new in equine nutrition and develops feed formulas, drawing inspiration from her four horses including her young-at-heart 30-year-old. She breaks down science into information people can use and into feeds she is be happy to feed her own horses. Katie received her Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and loves Purina’s culture of research. There’s so much exciting work still to be done, she says. And I get to go play with Budweiser Clydesdales then come home and ride my own horses. Nothing and nowhere, she says, could be better.
