Biography

  Valedictorian of his class and Cum Laude Graduate at the University of Missouri Medical School, John A. Baker, MD joined the Carrell Clinic™ in 1986. Dr. Baker was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He is a graduate of Purdue University, where he received an athletic scholarship and swam competitively on a national level. Like many of the Carrell Clinic™ physicians, a love of sports led him to seek a career in orthopedic surgery. Elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society during medical school, he completed a general surgery internship at Parkland Hospital and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas. He was then awarded a fellowship in arthroscopy and sports medicine at Hughston Orthopedic Sports Medicine Clinic in Columbus, Georgia. Board Certified, Dr. Baker is a fellow of the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America. In addition to general orthopedics, Dr. Baker’s special interests include: sports injuries, arthroscopic surgery, and shoulder and knee disorders. He served 10 years as Assistant Team Orthopedic Surgeon to the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. Dr. Baker continues to be and has been the Head Orthopedic Team Physician for the Southern Methodist University Athletic Department for 30 years. He has a strong interest in the prevention of sports injuries including concussions.
